Artist Profile – Megatron
DJ / Music Producer / Graphic Designer – JaxDnB / Betamorph
Megatron has been an active memeber of the Drum and Bass scene for the last 25 years and has been blessed to share the stage with many DnB legends such as Ed Rush, Black Sun Empire, Dylan, Planet of the Drums, Evol Intent, Aphrodite, and Big Bud to name a few. Don’t let the name fool you, Megatron sounds like a dark villain but you never know what his style will transform into. From robotic sounds and dark rhythms, to sexy rollers and jungle anthems – there’s something for everyone in the mix.
Megatron has always loved all types of music, but nothing seemed to mash his varoius tastes together until he found the Rave scene in the 90’s. While frequenting Orlando’s underground parties, Megatron always seemed to find the crusty backrooms with the DnB music and called it home. After purchasing his first turntables, he formed a collective with his friends known as the Flatlinaz and they started making moves. From hosting a successful weekly to playing local events, he secured a residency on Orlando’s underground radio station 93 Dance FM, which helped bring DnB to the mainstream. Only playing other people’s music was never good enough, so Megatron learned to create his own tracks and make remixes. Through sharing tunes and dubplates, he was invited to join the 181bpm crew alongside Will Miles, which increased his arsenal of music and bookings around the state.
After relocating to Jacksonville, Megatron noticed the DnB scene was hard to find as an outsider. He created a successful message board – JAXDNB, which focused on helping the music find it’s local audience. After consolidating the scene, he joined forces with Bad Syntax and the Revolution crew and quickly became part of the regular rotation, including residencies at the historic Club 5, and popular DnB night Protocol. In 2009 Megatron partnered with Deej and created Betamorph Recordings, further pushing the sounds of Bass music while signing some of today’s big artists. From behind the decks to behind the scenes, there’s a good chance you have encountered Megatron even through numerous designs on album covers and flyers.
