Heyo… sup! Reflections here with some recaps from our summer events and a bit about what’s coming up.
Kicking off the summer with a major DnB event
June was a huge month for me personally. First, my birthday at the beginning of the month. Then, a major party to celebrate our recent marriage! We went all out with our artist booking and our decorations, even arranging for a special after-hours.
June’s Terrace Takeover at Myth
Our first Friday takeovers at Myth are always fun and we get to meet new people. My birthday falls in the first week of June, too, so this one felt a little extra special to me. Sadly I didn’t get any photos from this one, but we have plenty of videos of full DJ sets on our YouTube channel that you can watch anytime.
Big Celebration with Headliners Quadrant & Iris
For those who don’t know, Rashelle and I got married earlier this year! We knew that we wanted to have a big and non-traditional celebration with everyone, and we have both been fans of Quadrant and Iris for a long time. Yet, we didn’t just want this to be any other DnB event… Rashelle spent weeks creating some awesome UV reactive decorations, while I took care of all the logistics and curating the lineup. The result? One helluva party that went into the late night hours. To top it all, Leigh and Karen (Q & I) were both really chill people to kick it with; the next day we got a late breakfast, then went to Friendship Fountain and the MOSH before their flight back home to Seattle.
More Summer Heat with Raydium and Souljunk
The U.S. is just brimming with Drum & Bass talent and it’s bridging generations. I had already been in contact with Souljunk for a while and initially was going to bring him here in the springtime. Calendars didn’t line up right, but sometimes things just work out. When he informed me about a tour with his friend Raydium to support their forthcoming collab EP, I said “let’s go!” They arranged a Florida leg consisting of a show in Orlando on a Friday, then here in Jacksonville the next day (Saturday). Along with that, I made arrangements with Audia of Introspective, who was hosting the tour in Orlando, for me to support them there and to have her come support them up here.
Turned out to be quite a wild weekend! On top of all that, we ended up having to find a new venue almost at the last minute (don’t worry, Studio 444 will be coming back, better than ever). And so, a year to the date after our epic show at SALT, we returned to the beaches, this time at the legendary and historic venue VooSwar. I’ll tell ya what, this is another case of things just working magically. We ended up with a Funktion1 sound system, and the venue’s cool light-up dancefloor and overall aesthetic. Even though we dealt with some rain in the late afternoon and during our load in, it turned out to be an amazing night. All the artists played top-notch sets, and so many people told me what a great time they had all night.
Upcoming Jacksonville DnB Events – September + October
Friday 05 September we celebrate 3 years of the Terrace Takeover at Myth Nightclub! What initially started with a trial run has become a fixture that we look forward to every month. It’s a great avenue for us to introduce Drum & Bass to an audience who might have never heard of it, and it’s always a very dynamic night. Once again, some kind of magic was at work for this lineup; our good friend Prez Cricket is back home on vacation from Germany and will be our headliner for the night. Alongside for the ride is another good friend Megatron, plus birthday sets from IonZ and D Rock, and of course myself Reflections.
