It might feel like it will be hard to top the incredible year that U.S. DnB saw in 2023. Just in the Southeast alone we saw a record-breaking attendance at Atlanta’s annual Jungle Bells, a dedicated Drum n Bass stage at EDC Orlando, and the once-in-a-lifetime lineup of U.S. pioneers at Kontrolled Kaos Presents Science + Sickness.
In the Northeast, Driven AM has been going all out with their Big Drum n Bass Party series of events co-produced with Damian Higgins a.k.a. Dieselboy. On the West Coast, the team at Respect L.A. has been rolling out bangers nonstop. And all points in between, scenes small and large in cities like Seattle, New Orleans, Charlotte, Savannah, Tampa, Philly, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Austin, and the list goes on.
With the kind of momentum we’ve seen, and with more major promoters seeing the widespread appeal of drum n bass, we won’t be surprised to see it hitting some main stages and peak hour time slots during the 2024 festival season. Already we’re making big plans right here at home.
What’s on deck for JaxDnB in 2024
Starting in February our monthly Terrace Takeover at Myth Nightclub is moving to first Fridays each month. We also will have our first headliner show of the year which will feature our friend SST who will be promoting his new long-player album. Hear The Message is out on U.S. based label Boomslang Recordings on 19 January. You can already buy the album sampler from their Bandcamp page, or preorder the full release on Beatport.
For March we’re planning a special event to celebrate 10 years in business for Jacksonville-based Handsome Zack’s Records, an online record store owned and operated by one of our own local legends Matt Caulder. We’ve been supporting his operation since the days before he turned it into his full-time work. We are happy to see him still able to follow his passion for curating music in the vinyl format.
In April we are working on another special event for you. If all goes well, it will bring you an experience direct from the heart and soul of the U.K. drum n bass scene. We can’t spill the tea yet but trust us when we say that it’s going to be vibes for days.
It’s hard to say how we will top some of last years shows but we sure are going to try! Almost certainly there will be another BBQ featuring a certain artist (or several) from a certain fruit-related music label, and who knows what else is in store. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter so you don’t miss our updates, and we’ll see you out in the dance.
